Bohemian Rhapsody...

Above are some Czech Easter eggs given to me by my Aunts, who would get them from some of their friends that still carried on the craft of etching Easter eggs here in the States. The eggs were hard boiled, then dyed and an outline was scratched in. Working from that outline the final 'highlight' art was etched in. Being a very fragile canvas it was possible to get well into the design only to hit a soft spot and have the shell break.  The common response to this (besides probably a word or two of frustration) would be to peel away the art and eat the egg before moving on to the next oval canvas. The finished eggs become hollow after time and, like the one above, sometimes accidently break.
Happy Easter.
